Police Cadets

About us

Enfield Police Cadets have now been running at Broomfield School since January 2016. We are very grateful to the School for their support in helping us to expand the service and offer more young people the chance to have some life changing experiences. Our first Cohort have  now been attested and are really getting stuck in to helping their community become a safer place.

Enfield Volunteer Police Cadets are young people aged between 10 and 18 years of age who want to make a difference in our community. From a variety of different backgrounds they all come together with the common purpose of volunteering for positive change.

All Cadets undergo a 10 week induction process before embarking on their journey of learning and activities, designed to enhance their skills and confidence. There is a large emphasis on Police activities and outdoor pursuits and all Cadets give at least 5 hours a month to engage in crime prevention initiatives or other volunteering.

Meetings

Weekly meetings take place on:

 

Senior Section (13-18)  Tuesday  evenings 19:00-21:30 at Broomfield School and there are many opportunities to get involved in weekend and holiday events. 

 

All Enfield Volunteer police cadets have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award

 

Junior Cadets (10-13)  Tuesday evenings 5:00pm - 6:30pm at Broomfield School

Why join?

​

The success of the VPC is based on research over a number of years which identifies what is effective in working with young people from a wide range of backgrounds including those at risk of offending. This research suggests the following four principles which are core to how the VPC works.

​

  • Developing ‘Social Citizens’ using the latest ideas in Pro Social Modelling

  • Creating a warm, supportive and enthusiastic youth community with a welcoming approach

  • Providing effective peer, leader and role model guidance using proven techniques

  • Inspiring community involvement using restorative problem solving approaches

  • ​

The majority of Enfield Cadets leave with enhanced confidence, a wider range of skills and many have improved their chances of gaining employment or moving into higher education. Not all Cadets join with a view to becoming Police Officers but due to the time and effort put in by the Staff team which is currently made up of Volunteers and Police Officers an increased number are now considering a career in the Police Service. Enfield Volunteer Police Cadets offers young people the chance to learn a wide range of new skills, visit new places and take part in activities and competitions with like minded young people from all over the London area.

Uniform

Whilst we are a Disciplined Uniformed Youth group with rules and regulations that have to be adhered to the main emphasis is on the development of young people whilst having fun.

All Volunteer Police cadets are provided with a Uniform but there is an expectation that this will be cared for and returned on completion of service.
